Our History & Economic Impact

The Beginning

Etex Communications, L.P., was established in 1989 as a subsidiary of the Etex Telephone Cooperative, which was founded in 1952. The cooperative was created to address the communications needs of rural Northeast Texas, where other companies chose not to serve. With funding from the REA (Rural Electrification Administration), a group of industrious individuals launched this initiative to provide reliable communication services to underserved areas.

The original 743 members paid a $10 membership fee and made an initial investment of $40 to bring telephone service to rural communities. Over time, Etex has grown into a company that now serves more than 12,600 members and customers.

Company Growth

Etex Telephone Cooperative now boasts service areas spanning 710 square miles of rural East Texas, offering customers local, long-distance, digital TV, and internet services (including dial-up, DSL, and fiber) at competitive rates.

The development of fiber in the loop has allowed Etex to expand its broadband services further, ensuring that customers in rural areas can enjoy speeds and reliability comparable to urban centers.

A Legacy of Innovation

From the earliest days of telephone lines strung along fence posts and outhouses, Etex has consistently evolved to meet the needs of its members. Today, our state-of-the-art fiber-optic network enables high-speed internet, digital TV, and advanced phone services, cementing our role as a leader in rural communication services.

Etex Today

Etex is led by its Board of Directors and supported by over 110 employees dedicated to delivering exceptional service. Together, we take pride in providing quality communication solutions and remain committed to meeting future needs with innovation and care.
